Is Destiny 2 Still Worth Playing Today?

Last updated on March 19, 2020, By Charles

Over the last six years, the Destiny shooter games by Bungie have created a large and loyal audience. An audience which stills logs in and suits up for the game’s daily and weekly intergalactic challenges. Nevertheless, just like with every other game playable in a PS4, an Xbox One or a Nintendo Switch, there comes a time when players start feeling that there is nothing more a title can offer them. Some say that this time has come for Destiny 2, but others – including Bungie – say that the game still has a lot more to offer to its community.

It is, of course, a fact that the repetitive content has made a lot of players look for entertainment elsewhere, whether that means playing other console games or some of the super games at the UK slotsheaven.com or avoiding games altogether. In an effort not to lose its audience, Bungie keeps adding contents to Destiny 2. These come in the form of playable content expansions or in the form of special customising rewards. The game’s developers have also made the main game free to play, which is sure to attract many curious shooter game fans.

More Content Means More Downtime Periods

Destiny 2 has a lot to offer to its players, and it is a game that keeps getting bigger and bigger. However, this comes at a price as the game’s servers have started going offline for maintenance very frequently. The downtimes, which normally occur on Tuesdays, frustrate a lot of players. In addition, it takes time for things to get back to normal after the game has gone back online.

One might say that losing a few hours of gameplay for additional contents and improved user experience is worth it, but if you are a hardcore gamer aiming to be the next PewDiePie on YouTube, then this wasted time is sure to be an obstacle. Hopefully, Bungie understands the cost of putting the game offline so often, and they will find a suitable solution to this problem.

So, What Does a Player Get from Destiny 2 in 2020?

Apart from the main game and the three previous expansions of Destiny 2, players who are returning to, or who are just starting the game, will also have the opportunity to play its latest addition; Shadowkeep. This campaign takes place on the Moon, which is a planet which Destiny 1 players used to explore. The latest expansion adds a significant amount of gameplay hours and treats players with a few cosmetic “goodies”. The Finisher action, in particular, is something that many players seem to enjoy. In addition to the above, the level cap has increased to 960, and new exotic equipment is going to be up for grabs as the player completes missions and hits milestones.

When Will Destiny 2 Be Discontinued?

Even though it has almost been three years since the release of Destiny 2, it does not seem like a Destiny 3 game is coming any time soon. Bungie hints that the life cycle of Destiny 2 is still at its early stages and that more contents are going to be released in the following months or years. On the other hand, it is highly unlikely that Bungie, or any other game developer, is not going to try and take advantage of the release of PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, by releasing a game that will be up to date with the capabilities of the next-generation consoles. After all, gaming is a multi-billion-dollar industry, and its audience is always asking for more titles.
